Farewell Lettuce
My first official casualty of the summer came in the form of these les oreilles du diable lettuce plants. They gave us a good run, but when temperatures hit 90-plus for a week and we weren’t around to keep them from bolting, they flowered up and died.
It’s a bummer to lose what had been by far the most productive plants in the garden so far, but it also clears out some space for some fall plantings, so beets shall go in their place. Sorry lettuce, but it’s the circle of life!
